Cornell West and living next door to White People

I had a cousin who was just too damn happening to live in the "hood" so he moved to the suburbs. Well, he quickly learned that living next to White people is an experience not unlike landing on the moon. Now, before we go the stereotype land, they were great neighbors, just different in certain cultural ways. For instance, if we were playing spades (insert stereotype land mass here) and getting loud there would be a timid knock at the door and a very sincere inquiry as to the health and welfare of everyone inside. "I heard quite the racket and just wanted to make sure everything is okay."  The first couple of times we found this Caucasian quaint, then it just got irritating. Once we figured out he just wanted to be invited over and taught to play spades, it was all good. So what does this have to do with the current reverse circle jerk of Cornell West and pretty much anyone else in black academia?  Our White neighbors are watching and listening very intently to this argument. Some of them understand that we are just doing what we do at barbeques, family reunions, and every Thanksgiving since Emancipation.  We state loudly, we defend passionately, we laugh loudly and dismiss your stupid ideas even more loudly.  For our neighbors, don't mistake what you hear for some sort of civil war, we just clearing the air and we are getting more and more comfortable with the freedom we now have to do exactly that. Sure, there are plenty of White (and Fox Black) pundits who are certain that this pissing match is proof positive that there is a changing of the guard in the Black leadership. That is wrong because there is no Black leadership, just leaders who happen to be Black. Don't get it twisted, we fight cuz we family.
