Forget about Big Brother...Big Po Po are running things up in here....

One of my favorite websites is Truthout and one of the best articles I have read lately is One Week In the Life of a Police State.  At first I thought it was going to be an article about how, even though progress on human rights has been made, Cuba still restricts free speech and assembly.  Not about our neighbors to the south.  Perhaps the author is going to take us inside Iran and remind us how the freedoms we all take for granted are still out of reach for most, if not all, Iranians.  Nope.  This story is about us and how we are allowing our most sacred freedoms to slowly fade away.  Whether we are talking about the right of the police to kick in your door, toss your whole apartment, threaten you if you don't tell them where you hide the dope (yes they have the right to do that whether they have a warrant or not) or we are talking about whether wearing headphones and slow dancing with your lover in front of the Jefferson Monument is crime enough to get you arrested (yep, it sho nuff is); what this is really about is how, under the 911 umbrella of protection, we are watching as the Bill of Rights is thrown into a shredder.  Read this article and be amazed, maybe even angry, but most of all, be educated, while we can still do that without being arrested.
